Memorial Gathering to Honour Ramlihang and Ridama in Jhunduwa, Dhankuta

DHANKUTA — A memorial gathering will be held in Jhunduwa, Dhankuta, on Kartik 4 to honour Ramlihang and Ridama, who are remembered as cultural martyrs.
According to information released by Dhankuta Press, the programme will begin at 11 a.m. in Chuliban Jhunduwa, Dhankuta Municipality–7. Organised by the Kirat Athpahariya community, the gathering is expected to include the Mongol National Organisation and various organisations advocating for identity rights.
The event aims to pay tribute to Ramlihang and Ridama, who lost their lives defending their culture and existence. A public notice has called on members of the community and other interested individuals to attend.
According to the Athpahariya community’s historical memory, Ramlihang and Ridama were executed after refusing an order from the rulers of the time to celebrate Dashain. Dhankuta Press dates the incident to 1933 in the Bikram Sambat calendar. The community remembers them as symbols of cultural resistance who stood up for their ancestral culture and beliefs.
Dhankuta Press reports that tribute programmes have been held in their memory in Jhunduwa for approximately a decade. This year’s memorial gathering will continue that tradition.
A video released to promote the event features a song in the Athpahariya language about the suffering of Ramlihang and Ridama. The promotional material also carries the message: “Let us go to Jhunduwa, Dhankuta, on Kartik 4, 2083 BS.”
