NAMD marks music maestro Gurung’s 86th birth anniversary

Kathmandu, Feb 27: The Nepal Academy of Music and Drama (NAMD) marked the 86th birth anniversary of music maestro Ambar Gurung by organizing a programme here Monday.

Noted musician Gurung, the first Chancellor NAMD, was the composer of national anthem.

In the programme, NAMD Chancellor Nisha Sharma said musician Gurung’s role is unforgettable. “NAMD is effortful to realize the Nepali orchestra as dreamt by the late Gurung,” she informed.

Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Bhupal Rai, viewed the late Gurung as a versatile personality. “Limiting him only as a composer of the national anthem would be inappropriate, for he was the shining star in music firmament,” Rai observed.

Senior singer Sangita Pradhan sang ‘Kati samhalu chotharu’, while Kunti Moktan ‘Ukali chaddha pasina puchhne’, and Bishnu Adhikari ‘Mero yo geetma jun murchhan’ in memory of the late Gurung.
