Goma Rana Unanimously Elected President of Literary Federation UK Western Branch; Three Books Launched
Swindon, UK, 5 September 2026: A literary gathering, the joint launch of three books, and the convention of the Literary Federation UK Western Branch were successfully held on Saturday at The Turner Restaurant in Swindon, United Kingdom.
The first session was chaired by the organisation’s President, Lal Sundar Rai, with Mulibir Rai attending as the chief guest, Biswasdip Tigela as the special guest, and Dr Sumaya Rai as patron. The programme formally opened with a welcome to guests and participants, a moment of silence in memory of the deceased, and a welcome address by Senior Vice-President Goma Rana.
Three literary works were jointly launched during the programme: Dr Sumaya Rai’s ‘Jindagi Phool Samjhe Phoolai Ho’, Shanti Limbu’s ‘Themsko Laharma Tamorko Sparsha’, and Semanta Semanta Rai’s ‘Andherima Jun’.
Following the launch, Naresh Kambang Rai presented a review of Dr Sumaya Rai’s book, Biswasdip Tigela reviewed Shanti Limbu’s work, and Mukesh Rai presented a review of Semanta Semanta Rai’s book. The three authors subsequently spoke about their respective works.
During the first session, the executive committee’s progress and previous decisions were reviewed. The annual and financial reports were also presented, discussed and approved.
As time permitted, several participants recited their literary works. The programme was conducted by Secretary Jeet Budhathoki and Ganga Bhandari. The first session concluded with remarks from the chief guest and a closing address by the chairperson.
The organisation’s convention and election process were held during the second session. The election proceedings were chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Biswasdip Tigela and conducted by Election Committee Secretary Mukesh Rai. After completing the required procedures, the Election Committee announced the new executive committee.
The convention unanimously elected Goma Rana as President. The newly elected executive committee comprises Shanti Limbu as Senior Vice-President, Jeet Budhathoki as Vice-President, Ganga Bhandari as Secretary, and Rajendra Rai as Treasurer. Hem Rai, Kamala Gurung, Rosie Rai, Prince Rai, Anjan Kirat and Homa Limbu were elected as executive members. Dr Sumaya Rai continues to serve as the organisation’s patron.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the newly elected office-bearers expressed their commitment to further strengthening the organisation’s literary and cultural activities and to playing an active role in promoting Nepali language, literature and culture in the United Kingdom. The convention concluded with a vote of thanks and a formal declaration of its closure.
The programme was also attended by Bishnu Shrees Magar, Vice-President of Magar Association UK; Kalpana Rai, President of the Kirat Rai Yayokkha Swindon Branch; Raghu Bhandari; Hom Kirat Sunuwar; Sunita Rai; Tayahanga Rai; Seema Rai; Jhelam Rai; Manu Paija; Rudra Paija; Rita Rai; Bhola Bikram Rai; as well as representatives of various organisations, writers, literary figures and literature enthusiasts.
