The Mayor of Madway held a press question answer in her mayor parlour on 16 August. Half a dozen Nepalese language-based journalists took part in the question and answers.
The Mayor of Madway, Cllr Nina Gurung, was elected as a councillor in the last local election on 4 May 2023. The following week, she became The Worshipful The Mayor of Madway. Cllr Gurung is the first female mayor of Buddhist and Nepali heritage and from a Gurkha family.
Cllr Gurung is a social worker and activist who graduated from Kent University.
The Mayor stated that her prime focus is to complete the tenure and maintain harmony in Madway.
Along with the Mayor-Council, leader Vince Maple answers issues regarding the council. Madway is a unitary authority with an enormous population; however, Madway is having a debt crisis at this moment, he admitted.
For the first time ever, the Madway Council election result was significant; Labour Party won a majority of 33 out of 59 councillors in the last May election.
