Madeira, Portugal —
Mr David Khewa, also known as Debindra Bahadur Limbu, won the veterans’ category in the 95-kilometre Alta Madeira Trail race, which began at midnight on 2 September 2026. Among 93 runners from Portugal and abroad, Khewa finished fourth overall and first in the veterans’ category.

He crossed the finish line at 1.30 p.m., completing the course in 13 hours and 30 minutes.

The following day, Sunday, Khewa returned to compete in a 10-kilometre mini trail race, finishing second in 39 minutes. Representing Nepal, he has regularly participated in running competitions in Portugal.

In 2022, Khewa completed an approximately 500-kilometre run from Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu to Tundikhel in Dhankuta in 56 hours and 47 minutes. He has also participated in the 192-kilometre Manjushree Trail Race, which follows trails through the hills surrounding Kathmandu.

In 2024, he finished ninth among 1,400 participants in the internationally renowned 118.5-kilometre MIUT trail race, completing the course in 16 hours and 14 minutes.

Born in Hattikharka, Ward 1 of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality in Dhankuta, Khewa served for several years in Nepal’s Armed Police Force before moving to Bahrain, where he continued running. Within three years of arriving in Portugal, he has competed in half a dozen international races.

His next ambition is to undertake an approximately 120-kilometre run from the Provincial Assembly building in Biratnagar to the office of his home municipality, Chhathar Jorpati. He hopes to complete the run within the next few months, setting off from Biratnagar in the evening. To help bring this plan to fruition, he intends to approach the rural municipality for support and coordination.

Khewa then plans to compete in races exceeding 100 kilometres in various European countries.

At 42, Khewa is a familiar name in Nepal’s running community. We wish him continued success as he prepares for his next challenge.
