Poet and Lyricist Surya Gurung’s ‘Timi Maya’ Launched by His 91-Year-Old Mother

London — Poet and lyricist Surya Gurung’s collection of poems and songs, *Timro Maya*, was launched on 1 November 2026 at Tamu House in Mytchett, home to Tamu Dhee UK.

Gurung’s 97-year-old mother unveiled the book, joined by guests on stage.

The programme began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp. Yasoda Gurung delivered the welcome address, while Biswasdip Tigela reviewed the collection and Ekendra Gurung spoke about the author’s life and creative journey.

Following screenings of music videos featuring Gurung’s songs, chief guest Jumkaji Gurung and the author addressed the gathering. Artist Pavitra Gurung, visiting from Nepal, was also honoured during the programme.

The collection comprises 40 poems and 60 songs. Its themes range from nostalgic memories of military life and the love of newlyweds to portrayals of villages and hometowns, environmental awareness and community identity. It also includes organisational songs for Tamu Dhee, the Gurung Association and Tamu regional committees, alongside works expressing sympathy and solidarity with victims of the tsunami in Thailand and the Bhotekoshi avalanche.

More than 22 of Gurung’s songs have already been recorded. Widely known as an event host, Gurung has further established his identity as a poet and lyricist through this collection.

The event was chaired by Padam Gurung, immediate past president of Tamu Artists’ Cultural Forum UK, and hosted by Bimal Gurung.
