London. The Non-Resident Nepali Association UK (NRNA UK) is set to organise a special memorial and candlelight vigil in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating floods and landslides in Rasuwa, Nepal.
The memorial gathering will take place on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. NRNA UK President Prem Gaha Magar said the event would begin at 7:15 p.m. local time at Princess Gardens (Kulbir Thapa VC Memorial), Aldershot, GU11 1NX.
Nepalis living abroad have organised the event to express their profound sorrow over the natural disaster in their homeland and to extend condolences to the bereaved families. All Nepalis living in the United Kingdom have been invited to attend the candlelight vigil and pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls.
The devastating floods and landslides that struck Rasuwa and surrounding areas on 26 August caused extensive loss of life and property. According to government figures, the death toll from the Rasuwa flood disaster has now reached 626.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said that, as of 10 a.m. on Saturday, the bodies of 626 people had been recovered from various districts.
An avalanche in Tibet on Wednesday, 26 August, caused extensive human casualties and physical damage in China as well as in the Nepali districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Dhading and Chitwan, among others. Search operations are continuing in these districts.
The death toll reached 626 within four days and is expected to rise further. The highest number of bodies recovered so far is in Chitwan, where 233 people have been found dead.
The Authority reported that 13 bodies had been recovered in Rasuwa, 51 in Nuwakot, 48 in Gorkha, 45 in Dhading, 158 in East Nawalparasi, 47 in West Nawalparasi and 31 in Tanahun.
