Yakthung (Limbu) European Gathering to Be Held in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, July 18, 2025 – For the first time in history, a Europe-wide gathering of Yakthung (Limbu) individuals is set to take place in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. The event aims to foster fraternity and strengthen mutual ties among Limbu communities scattered across various European countries.

This information was shared in a joint letter issued by Mr. Badan Yonghang (President of Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, Belgium), Mr. Sanchaman Jabegu (President, Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, Germany), and Mr. Rukman Kerung (President, Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, Portugal).

According to Mr. Kerung, the event will be hosted on July 27, 2025, in Lisbon. Office bearers and representatives from Kirat Yakthung Chumlung organizations based in different European countries are expected to attend. The gathering aims not only to introduce one another but also to explore avenues for future collaboration. Participation is open to any interested Yakthung individuals, regardless of formal affiliation with the Chumlung.

The first day will also feature the inaugural session of the Limbuwan Academic Dialogue, to be conducted with senior personalities in attendance.

On the second day, participants will join the annual gathering of Kirat Yakthung Chumlung Portugal, which will include the Sisekwa Tangnam cultural celebration.

The third day will conclude with a group city tour of Lisbon and a farewell program.

Organizers mentioned that the primary aim is to establish an annual European-level Limbu meet-up. Future editions may be hosted in Belgium, Germany, or other countries. Portugal was selected for the first event to ensure convenient travel accessibility across European borders.
