Dr. Sumaya Rai’s Book “Jindagi Phool Samjhe Phoolai Ho” Launched in London

London – On 16 May 2026, the autobiographical work “Jindagi Phool Samjhe Phoolai Ho” by psychologist and social worker Dr. Sumaya Rai was officially launched. The book was unveiled during a special event organized by the Nepali Women’s Society UK in South Harrow, London, through a book launch and discussion program.

Senior journalist Khagendra Nepali formally launched the book. A discussion and review session on the publication was also held during the event.

The book was reviewed and commented on by literary figure Vijay Hitan, social worker Sumitra Rai, journalist and media personality Bimala Sene, writer Biswasdip Tigela, and literary scholar Dr. Rupak Shrestha. The discussion session was moderated by poet and literary figure Shashi Subba Thapa.

This is Dr. Rai’s fifth published work. Several of her other literary works have already been published previously. The program was conducted in two phases. The first phase included the inauguration session and goodwill remarks. Literary figures Durgaprasad Pokharel, Raj Shrestha, Devendra Kheres, Nirbhikjung Rayamajhi, and Khupen Magar delivered congratulatory speeches. The first session was hosted by Rina Pamphule, Secretary of the Nepali Women’s Society UK.

Kumari Niroula also recited poetry during the program. While reviewing the book, guests offered suggestions to further enrich its chapters and extended their best wishes for the author’s future literary journey.

During the event, chief guest senior journalist Khagendra Nepali, commentators Vijay Hitan, Sumitra Rai, Bimala Sene, Biswasdip Tigela, and Dr. Rupak Shrestha were honored with shawls and certificates of appreciation. The event concluded under the chairmanship of Bimala Kumari Rai, President of the Nepali Women’s Society UK.

Born on 24 Jestha 2019 B.S. in Lahan, Siraha, Dr. Rai is a former Associate Professor at Tribhuvan University and the first female President of Kirat Rai Yayokkha. She created “Jindagi Phool Samjhe Phoolai Ho: Jeevanyatra” by reflecting upon her personal, family, and social life experiences.

The book, spanning over 550 pages, contains 113 articles divided into three sections: the initial phase, middle phase, and final phase. It also includes the author’s family tree, perspectives from acquaintances, appendices, and photographs.

Her previously published works include “Tato Hawa” (music album, 2071 B.S.), “Abhyakta Abhibyakti” (poetry collection, 2072 B.S.), “Chham Sunakhari” (song collection, 2072 B.S.), and “Mero Antim Ichhyapatra” (poetry and song collection, 2075 B.S.). These works highlight the Nepali language, Kirati culture, Kirati history, and identity.
